Filters

The top section contains filters to help you narrow down the events that are important to you. By default, the Audience will be set to "Student", the Term will be set to the "Current Term" and Part of Term will be set to "Main Parts of Term". For the Spring and Fall terms, "Main Parts of Term" includes the Full Term (16 weeks, POTs 1/101), First 8 Weeks Term (8 Weeks, POTs 81/181) and Second 8 Weeks Term (8 Weeks, POTs 89/189). For the Summer term, Full Term (10 Weeks, POTS 1/101), First 5 Weeks Term (5 Weeks, POTs 51/151) and Second 5 Weeks Term (5 Weeks, POTs 56/156) are included.

While the Audience defaults to Student, any combination of Student, Facultyor Staff maybe selected. Only one Semester can be viewed at a time. The Part of Term allows option allows you to select Main Parts of Term, All Parts of Term, or an individual Part of Term. Additional filters allow you to select a date range or a specific category of events. These Categories currently include Registration, Payments and Refunds, Holidays, Overview of Important Dates, Graduation and Add/Drop or Withdrawal. Once you have your filters selected click "Go" to view your customized calendar. To return to the default settings click "Reset All".

Subscribing to Events

One of the best features of the new Academic Calendar is the ability to subscribe to the events you have selected. By subscribing to the events, your calendar/feed of choice will be updated automatically if an event changes in any way. Clicking the “Subscribe” button will bring up the following options:

The Weekly Email option will send you periodic email messages that contain new, updated and upcoming events. The iCalendar Download will add a new calendar that is a one-time snapshot of the events. Note that this calendar will not automatically update, so this option is not recommended.

iCalendar Subscribe

Subscribing with iCalendar Subscribe is the recommended option if you want to integrate an always up-to-date Academic Calendar into your calendaring program. In most cases, just clicking the webcal link will add a new calendar in your calendar application and subscribe to updates.

For specific Outlook instructions, see Office Support: View and subscribe to Internet calendars.

To subscribe in Google Calendar or Mozilla Thunderbird - Lightning Calendar, copy the link and paste it into the appropriate address or location field in the calendar application. For specific instructions, see:

Tip: In Lightning, you may have to replace webcal: with http: in the subscription link.

On an Android device, you can't subscribe by clicking the webcal link. Subscribe in Google Calendar, and then sync your calendars using a calendar app on your device. To unsubscribe, in your calendar program, delete the calendar.

Tip: On the iPhone or iPad, to unsubscribe go to your device Settings. In Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, under Subscribed Calendars, delete the calendar account.

If you use more than one calendar program (for example, Google Calendar and Outlook), you can control which program a browser opens when you subscribe via an iCalendar URL.

  1. In your browser, follow instructions for how to set which programs handle specific file types and protocols.
  2. For the .ics file and/or webcal protocol handler, set the calendar program you prefer.

Tip: You can set different .ics and webcal handlers in each browser you use.

RSS and ATOM (XML) Feeds

Click the link under one of these options to add the Academic Calendar to your RSS or ATOM feed. When you open the feed in a browser:

  • If a feed reader is integrated into the browser, you'll see a nicely formatted events list and the option to subscribe.
  • If you see unformatted information or a message that your browser can't display RSS feeds, try a different browser. Or, copy the URL and paste it into a feed reader. You can download free feed readers from app stores and the Web.

Tip: On the iPhone, instead of selecting the link, press, hold, and then copy it. In your RSS feed reader app, add a new subscription and paste the link. To unsubscribe, follow the unsubscribe or remove instructions in your feed reader.
