Cum is an inappropriate slang word that is used when a kind of liquid comes out of a males penis after ejaculation. Some people may say girls can “cum” too, like if they get “wet”. But that also just means that the girl is “turned on”. This liquid can also come out unexpectedly, like... during random times, it’s just part of your body.

Overall though, it’s just an informal, and inappropriate slang word.

@babykimchi Can it also be a preposition?

You can’t say the sentence without “cummed” or “wet”, so it’s not a preposition. If you were to say “He(or she) cummed in the bed.” In would be the preposition because you can say this statement without “In.” “In” is the preposition word, because it gives the statement emphasis, to make it more clear and specific, or to be more exact.

But “cum” is informal... very informal, so if you want to be more formal, you would say “He erected in the bed.” That is more formal, then again, it’s pretty unusual to bring a topic like that up, unless it’s a special circumstance.

So I looked it up, there are a few other meanings, but I didn’t know of them because I’ve never heard anyone use the word in these contexts. Cum could be an abbreviation of cumulate. It could also be a “variant spelling of come” . So in thee the sentence “He is a gardener-cum-handyman.” “Cum” may just be an abbreviation for “come”. If it were another case, “cum” could also be a preposition... here’s the explanation in the picture.

These are other possibilities meanings, but most people don’t use them anymore I’m guessing, because I’ve never heard someone use the word “cum” in hose contexts. Most people will think of the slang version because that’s what we are used to hearing.

Also, in your sentence. It means he is currently a Gardner, about to be a handyman. I may be wrong, so if anyone else comes to this question please correct me. But I’m pretty sure that’s right.

@andy520 It appears your question was successful answered, but if there’s still confusion: “something-cum-something” — such as gardener-cum-handyman — means the person (or object, or place, or room in your house..) functions as both of those things. So, he is both a gardener and a handyman :)
Other examples may be:
“I don’t mind living in a small apartment. My bedroom-cum-study room is enough for me!”
“This pint of chocolate ice cream-cum-therapist is exactly what I need after breaking up with my boyfriend.”
This is spelled the same as the slang word (verb, noun) for male ejaculate/semen, but they’re pronounced differently! The one meaning semen is pronounced like “come” with a short “uh” sound, while the one I explained above is pronounced “coom” with a long, round “ooooo” sound.
